What exactly is it? It’s about being a traveler, not a tourist. It’s about identifying with other cultures, locations, and nature. It’s about sustainability and being responsible to the destinations – helping to make the world a better place, now, and for future generations through caring for the environment, protecting the cultural and natural heritage of a place, and contributing to the well-being of the local communities you visit.
VAST, Virtuoso’s Active and Specialty Travel program, offers you the chance to immerse yourself in authentic, life-changing moments and unique experiences. To go beyond traditional sightseeing, taking you one step closer to our world’s most captivating destinations and intriguing cultures. Each exhilarating journey enriches your life and supports sustainable tourism, bringing meaning to your travel adventures.
On a VAST adventure, you can bike the Pyrenees Mountains to the lavender fields of Provence, you can camp in luxury tents on the sands of the Sahara Desert or at the base of the Himalayas, you can trek through the peaks of western Mongolia or on the glaciers in Patagonia, you can cruise the magnificent Amazon river or sail a racing yacht around New Zealand.
Whether you’re interested in experiencing a face-to-face meeting with a mountain gorilla in Rwanda or a witch doctor in Papua New Guinea or want to donate your time to a unique charitable initiative, we have access to a select group of travel providers and can make these dreams a reality. Together, we plan hand-crafted trips of a lifetime where you will make spiritual and cultural discoveries that can impact your life and the way you live.
Travel with Meaning. Forge relationships with both those who call your chosen destination home and the natural wonders of the region itself.
UN-CRUISE ADVENTURE
Cherie Morganroth and Gerry Snapke took an Un-Cruise Adventure to Alaska. These small ship cruises (84 passengers on their ship) are perfectly suited to foster uncommon encounters and unexpected experiences in Alaska’s Inside Passage. With no ports in which to dock, this trip was all nature– hiking, kayaking, paddle-boarding, and skiffs. They kayaked right off the back of their ship and were surrounded by whales, porpoises, otters, and jelly fish! With passionate guides to lead the way, this trip is a unique and challenging way to see Alaska.
BACKROADS
The Zimmerman Family discovered Wyoming while hiking, biking, rafting, and kayaking their way around The Tetons and Yellowstone Park.
Backroads excels at orchestrating a stress-free trip with time together as a family and alone time with kids-only and parents-only activities. By the end of the week, the Zimmermans felt their kids gained an appreciation for nature, while bonding with the other families on the trip in a camp-like atmosphere. The incredible guides helped them step outside of their comfort zone to find a truly rewarding experience.
ABSOLUTE TRAVEL
Absolute Travel’s safari tours are completely customized to meet the needs and interests of each specific group. The Kroft Family experienced the evocative beauty of Africa by visiting Cape Town, Kruger National Park, Victoria Falls, and Botswana. An inspiring visit to the township of Langa, outside of Cape Town, introduced them to the innovative community projects that have helped to uplift these impoverished communities. With incredible game drives and water rafting on the Zambezi, the Krofts had quite a family adventure.
